Lip balms are very easy to make using natural ingredients. The basic recipe is beeswax plus oil (almond, olive etc), with a few optional extras such as essential oils for fragrance.
Which leaves us baffled as to why commercially available lip balms frequently contain a selection of the following (tasty?!) ingredients –
Arachidyl propionate, methylparaben, phenyl methicone, mineral oil, isopropyl myristate, isopropyl lanolate, synthetic fragrance, cetyl alcohol, octyldodecanol, propylbaraben, padimate.
Since you put this stuff on your lips, you end up ingesting a small amount every time you use it. We know which one we’d rather ingest…
