Marlec Rutland FM910–3 Furlmatic Wind Charger 12v
The Furlmatic FM910–3 Windcharger is a quiet, discreet windcharger that can replace the need to install grid power and even enable the use of appliances at remote locations previously considered unfeasible owing to high grid installation costs. It is an affordable energy solution that is easy to install and requires only the very minimum of annual inspection/maintenance. The FM910–3 Windcharger can deliver power at remote locations that’s so reliable it’s been used in the extremes of Antartica and Himalayas. Tens of thousands of the original 910 series Rutland have been sold world wide and can be used almost anywhere as the ideal solution to deliver power at isolated land based applications.
General Information:The Furlmatic design includes a protective “furling” device in its tail system. This yaws the turbine at an angle to the prevailing wind at windspeeds above 35mph (15m/s) thus reducing the speed of the turbine and protecting it from the forces of excessive winds and reducing stresses on the turbine and tower.
Product Features –
Generates 90 Watts @ 19 knots and 24 Watts @ 10 knots.
Low wind speed start up of just 5 knots.
Rutland Windchargers generate greater ampere hours in real wind conditions than turbines of equal and often larger diameter. This is because of unique high inertia alternator designs which maintain momentum between gusts unlike other designs that stall and have to rebuild up speed.
More ampere hours are generated because of the Rutlands’ low wind speeds start up (of just 2.6 m/s) so power is being generated in the most typical wind speeds as well as being powerful in the strong winds.
Quiet in operation.
Every turbine is finely balanced to ensure smooth rotation.
Low friction 3 phase alternators give a smooth and silent output.
Automatic thermostatic alternator protection – this slows the turbine down in prolonged gales to give added protection against damage from high winds
Robustly constructed – for excellent reliability and product longevity, typically more than 10 years
One way only fit fine profile efficient aerofoil blades are unique in the industry – the blades have been tested to withstand a loading with a safety factor 10 times the turbine’s maximum rpm.
Turbine diameter of 910mm that means that it is a small turbine diameter for the power it produces.
Easy to handle for installation – built in slip ring and low wear brushes
Gives free 360 degree rotation on the mounting pole even in the slowest wind conditions.
The alternator’s windings and magnets are totally encapsulated
Weather Proof, the generator is completely protected from all weather conditions
Available in 12 volt or 24 volt as standard.
Compatible with all deep cycle battery types
No radiated interference
Complies with EEC Directive BS EN 89/336/EEC
Weight is 17Kg
What else is needed to complete a system?
Mounting pole for land based systems – the 910–3 can be installed on land using a 6m length of 48 mm outside diameter tube with 41 mm internal diameter. The mounting pole can be fixed into the ground or on pivot type base. A minimum height of 6 m and of 4 guy wires is recommended. The Land Tower kit is available separately and comprises 3 x tubes with joiners and a ground fixing spike giving an overall height of 6.4m. This must be supported by the Rigging Kit.
Voltage controller – Choose from 2 electronic regulators. Both models progressively slow down the turbine when the batteries become full thus reducing long term wear and tear to the turbine. Note that voltage regulators should always be sited within 1.5 m of the battery to minimise voltage losses and ensure accuracy of battery regulation.
Batteries – Deep cycle batteries should always be used for wind and solar charging.
Cable and connectors – Cable thicknesses are determined by the run of cable distance. Permanent battery connectors are recommended.
Inverters – Inverters convert battery power to 230V for appliances such as laptops, TVs etc.
